Kenilworth, New Jersey, was the headquarters of the Rahway Valley Railroad. The railroad's facilities, located at N. 31st Street and Boulevard, developed over several years. The station was built in 1899. A water tank, coal bunker, and yard tracks followed. The engine house was constructed in 1919. The original four factories served by the railroad were across the street from the station. This section developed into a vibrant industrial district for the railroad.
